Astros look to break out vs. Reds
Aug 27, 2008 - 10:50 AM Cincinnati (58-74) at Houston (66-66) at 8:05 p.m. EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Cincinnati Reds got their first complete game of the season from Bronson Arroyo on Tuesday.
If the last five starts of Josh Fogg are any indication, they won't get another one when he takes the mound against the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
Fogg (2-6, 7-66) has struggled over the last month, going 0-4 in his last five starts. The righthander, who has only pitched into the fifth inning once in his last five outings, has an 11.21 ERA in that span.
His last win came July 19, when allowed one earned run in six innings as the Reds beat the New York Mets, 7-2.
The Reds, who have not won consecutive games since July 22-23, beat the Astros for the second time in 10 meetings behind Arroyo.
Rookie catcher Ryan Hanigan, who was called up from Class AAA Louisville on August 10, broke a 1-1 tie with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Houston counters with Roy Oswalt (11-9, 4.23), who was a hard-luck loser his last time out, snapping his personal five-game winning streak. The Astros' ace pitched eight strong innings, allowing three runs and four hits, but was outdueled by Mets ace Johan Santana, who pitched seven sterling innings in New York's 3-0 win.
Dating to Monday's extra-inning loss to the Mets, the Astros have scored two runs in their last 23 innings.
