Dodgers hope to gain ground vs. Diamondbacks

Aug 31, 2008 - 8:08 AM LA Dodgers (66-70) at Arizona (69-66) 8:05 p.m. EDT

PHOENIX (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers finally found their way back into the win column. Now they have to find their way back to the top of the National League West.

The Dodgers will look to shave another game off the Arizona Diamondbacks' advantage when the teams meet on Sunday.

Los Angeles snapped an eight-game slide Saturday with a 6-2 win. Manny Ramirez homered twice - his first multi-homer game with the Dodgers - and reached 500 career doubles to lead the team to the win.

Ramirez is 8-for-9 in the series and is batting .419 with nine homers and 25 RBI since joining the Dodgers on August 1.

The Diamondbacks have dropped five of their last six games while failing to score more than four runs in any of the setbacks.

Arizona will send ace Brandon Webb (19-5, 2.96 ERA) to the mound in search of his 20th win. The righthanded sinkerballer squandered his first shot at his 20th win on Tuesday when he allowed six runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings at San Diego.

The loss to the Padres snapped a string of nine straight quality starts in which he went 7-0 with a 1.50 ERA.

The Dodgers will counter with their own sinkerball specialist, Derek Lowe (10-11, 3.81). The veteran righthander has allowed a total of four runs in his past three starts, going 1-1 over that span.

Lowe was outdueled by Webb on July 31 in a 2-1 Arizona win.
