White Sox looking to end road woes
Sep 3, 2008 - 11:33 AM Chi White Sox (77-61) at Cleveland (67-70) 12:05 p.m. EDTCLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox try to avoid their sixth loss in seven contests when they conclude a nine-game road trip against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.
Chicago entered its road swing with nine victories in its previous 12 contests but has struggled after opening the trip with an 8-3 victory over the fading Baltimore Orioles. The White Sox have lost five of six games and are on the verge of suffering their first three-game sweep by the Indians since 2006.
Despite the dismal stretch, Chicago is tied with the Minnesota Twins (77-61) atop the American League Central Division.
While the White Sox have batted just .228 during the past eight games, the pitching staff has posted a 5.91 ERA since hitting the road.
Javier Vazquez (10-12, 4,38 ERA) tries to stabilize Chicago's rotation when he takes the mound. Vazquez has lost each of his last two starts, surrendering nine runs - seven earned - and 15 hits in 12 2/3 innings over that span.
Jeremy Sowers (2-7, 5.92) tries to bounce back when he counters for the Indians. Sowers allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings, enduring a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
