Braves trying to end playoff hopes for Marlins

Sep 3, 2008 - 9:51 PM Atlanta (60-79) at Florida (70-69) 1:10 p.m. EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Braves try to earn their fourth straight series victory against the Florida Marlins when the teams meet on Wednesday.

Atlanta pounded out a season-high 16 runs and 21 hits on Tuesday, earning its fifth win in 22 games with a two-run victory over the Marlins. The win was the Braves' fourth against Florida in the last week as the Marlins fell eight games behind the New York Mets (78-61) for first place in the National League East Division.

The Marlins have a better chance to salvage the series finale as the Braves are expected to be without Chipper Jones for a second straight game. Jones, who ranks second in the NL with a .358 batting average, was scratched from Tuesday's game after injuring his right knee during infield practice.

Rookie Chris Volstad (4-3, 3.20 ERA) likely won't miss Jones when he takes the mound for Florida seeking his first win in three starts.

Jorge Campillo (7-7, 3.61) tries to end a dismal stretch when he counters for the Braves. Campillo has lost three of his last four starts, posting a 7.97 ERA during that span. The 30-year-old righthander was 4-0 with a 2.31 ERA over his previous six outings.
