Dodgers, Diamondbacks open key NL West series

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers used their last series with the Arizona Diamondbacks to turn their fortunes around. The Dodgers hope to carry that momentum into this weekend.

Los Angeles looks to extend its winning streak to six games as it hosts Arizona on Friday.

It is the final series of the season between the teams with Arizona leading Los Angeles by 1 1/2 games atop the National League West Division.

Following an eight-game losing streak that had Los Angeles 4 1/2 games out of first place, the Dodgers won the final two games against the Diamondbacks last weekend and swept the San Diego Padres this week.

Arizona comes in losers of eight of 12, but did take two out of three against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Dan Haren (14-7, 3.24 ERA) will take the hill for the Diamondbacks, looking to bounce back after losing his last start to the Dodgers. The righthander, who would tie his career high for wins in a season with his next victory, allowed five runs over six innings to the Dodgers last Saturday.

Opposing the Arizona starter will be Derek Lowe (11-11, 3.69), who defeated the Diamondbacks in his last start.

The righthander threw six scoreless innings in Los Angeles' 8-1 victory and Lowe has allowed two runs or less in each of his last four starts.
