Astros open four-game set vs. Pirates
Sep 8, 2008 - 2:17 PM Pittsburgh (60-82) at Houston (76-67) 8:05 p.m. EDTHOUSTON (Ticker) -- A stretch of 10 wins in their last 11 games has the surging Houston Astros a game out of third place in the National League Central.
One of baseball's hottest teams, the Astros (76-67) enter the opener of a four-game series against the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.
After winning the final five games of a six-game homestand, Houston swept a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs before taking two-of-three from the Colorado Rockies.
Houston turns to rookie Alberto Arias (0-0, 2.63) to continue the hot-streak for the Astros. The 24-year-old, who was picked up on waivers from the Colorado Rockies on July 31, was called up from Class AAA Round Rock and will be making his first career start.
The righthander posted a 2.63 ERA in 12 relief appearances with Colorado from May 7-June 2.
Pittsburgh starter Ian Snell (6-10, 5.59) goes for his third consecutive win for the first time in more than two years. He last won three straight decisions from August 12-28, 2006.
In his prior two road starts, the righthander is 2-0, allowing just one earned run in 13 innings with 13 strikeouts and only three walks.
