Dodgers in first place, but struggling on the road
Sep 9, 2008 - 1:27 PM LA Dodgers (73-71) at San Diego (56-88)SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have surged into first place in the National League West but need to turn around their play on the road if they plan on staying atop the standings.
After having an eight-game winning streak snapped, the Dodgers look to get back on track against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday.
Los Angeles swept the Arizona Diamondbacks (71-72) during a three-game series over the weekend to claim a 1 1/2 game lead atop the NL West. However, the Dodgers suffered their 11th loss in their last 13 road games on Monday, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Padres.
Andre Ethier collected three hits in the loss to continue his recent hot streak. Ethier is hitting .666 (16-of-24) with two home runs and eight RBI in September.
Ethier will try to continue his offensive assault against Padres rookie starter Wade LeBlanc (0-1, 11.25 ERA), who made his major league debut against the Dodgers on Wednesday. LeBlanc, 24, was pounded for five runs and eight hits in four innings, walking three while striking out one en route to a 6-4 loss.
Hiroki Kuroda (8-10, 3.96), who faced LeBlanc and earned the win during Wednesday's matchup, counters for the Dodgers.
