Tigers and Athletics meet in rubber match

DETROIT (Ticker) -- After having a stretch of eight straight starts without allowing more than three earned runs snapped last time out, Detroit Tigers starter Armando Galarraga will look to get back on track when he takes on the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.

The A's captured a come-from-behind, 3-2, victory on Tuesday after suffering a 14-8 defeat in the series opener.

Galarraga (12-5, 3.39) will look to bounce back from his September 5 start, the worst of his short career. The 26-year-old righthander, who had a personal five-game winning streak snapped, allowed a career-high in runs and walks, six apiece, along with two home runs in six innings during Detroit's 10-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

He has struggled with the long ball over his last six starts, surrendering eight homers during in that span.

In his last start against Oakland, Galarraga allowed two runs and eight hits over 5 2/3 innings, a 10-2 A's win on August 9.

Oakland counters with Sean Gallagher (1-2, 6.55), who will be making his first start in over a month. The righthander has been out of action since August 20 with fatigue in his throwing shoulder.

After being acquired from the Chicago cubs, Gallagher was 1-0 with a 3.22 ERA in his first four starts with his new club. In the next three starts, however, the 22-year-old posted a 12.75 ERA en route to a 0-2 record before heading to the disabled list.
