Twins-Orioles wiped out by rain

Sep 13, 2008 - 1:09 AM BALTIMORE (Ticker) -- Friday's series opener between the Minnesota Twins and Baltimore Orioles was postponed due to rain.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game scheduled for 5:05 p.m. EDT. The second contest will follow approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the opener.

Minnesota (80-66) enters the three-game set with Baltimore just one game behind the Chicago White Sox (81-65) for first place in the American League Central. The Twins have hung in the race despite losing 12 of their last 18 contests, including nine of their last 12 on the road.

The Twins did not lose any ground in the AL Central race on Friday as the White Sox also were rained out. There were a total of six postponed games in the major leagues, including one in Houston between the Astros and Chicago Cubs due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Ike.

Scott Baker (8-4) will take the mound for the Twins in the opener, while Glen Perkins (12-4) is slated to start the nightcap.

Baltimore will counter with Daniel Cabrera (8-9) and Garrett Olson (9-7).
