Rangers hope offense leads to winning record
Sep 13, 2008 - 10:08 AM Texas (73-75) at Oakland (67-80) 4:05 p.m. EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers' offense is doing its best to ensure the team finishes above .500 for the first time in four seasons.
The Rangers look to move one victory closer to a winning record when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Texas, which finished 89-73 in 2004, has averaged over seven runs in its last six games. The Rangers have won six of their previous nine, including the first two of the four-game series against the A's.
Oakland, conversely, ranks last in the majors with a .240 batting average and are scoring under four runs per game. The A's have been outscored, 13-1, in the first two games against Texas, falling to 2-6 at McAfee Coliseum against the Rangers this season.
Scott Feldman (5-6, 5.05 ERA) hopes the offensive support continues when he takes the mound for Texas. Feldman is starting in place of Brandon McCarthy, who had his start pushed back to Tuesday in order to get some additional rest.
Rookie Josh Outman (0-0, 6.23) will make his first start in the majors for Oakland. Outman has been unimpressive in two relief appearances since being promoted from Class AAA Sacramento on September 2. The 23-year-old lefthander has allowed three runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
