Twins need to take advantage of woeful Orioles
Sep 13, 2008 - 12:53 PM Minnesota at Baltimore (2ND GAME)BALTIMORE (Ticker) - If the Minnesota Twins hope to make a serious push for the postseason, a doubleheader against the hapless Baltimore Orioles could be what the doctor ordered.
The Twins will send Glen Perkins to the mound when they take on the Orioles in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The game will begin 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.
Minnesota enters the day one game behind the Chicago White Sox (81-65) for first place in the American League Central.
A series with the Orioles could help as Baltimore has lost 17 of its last 21 and has yielded 7.8 runs per game over that span.
Perkins (12-4, 4.11 ERA) hopes his team can give him similar run support. The 25-year-old lefthander had his personal five-game winning streak snapped last Sunday, allowing five runs - three earned - over 5 2/3 innings to Detroit.
The Orioles will counter with Garrett Olson (9-7, 6.43), who is coming off his first win in over a month on Monday. The lefthander allowed three runs over six innings in Baltimore's 14-3 triumph over Cleveland.
