Tigers-White Sox postponed again

Sep 13, 2008 - 9:09 PM CHICAGO (Ticker) -- The weekend series between the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox won't get started on Saturday.

After Friday's game was postponed and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader on Saturday, rain continues to hammer Chicago and the doubleheader has been put on hold.

The two teams are tentatively scheduled to play a day-night doubleheader on Sunday, with the first game slated for 2:05 p.m. EDT and the nightcap at 8:05, though rain is in the forecast once again.

"We will play when the umpires say play ball," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "But we hope it will not be a situation where we get anyone hurt. It is good they called this game quickly because it's obvious we were not going to get anything done today."

Though plans may change, the current plan is for Saturday's projected Game One starters, Detroit's Kenny Rogers and Chicago's Javier Vazquez, to start the first game on Sunday. The night game is expected to remain as scheduled with the Tigers' Justin Verlander facing off against White Sox lefthander John Danks.

"I don't know if this is good or bad," Vazquez said. "I just changed my approach to pitch on three days' rest and now I am back to four. But my arm feels good, so no big deal."

There is no official word on when the second game will be made up. The White Sox (81-65) lead the Minnesota Twins (80-66) by one game in the American League Central Division entering Saturday's play.

"Hopefully we will get both games in (on Sunday)," Vazquez said. "If we don't, it will really mess with the schedule."

For the rest of their schedule, the White Sox have only one day off - September 22 - when the team will travel from Kansas City to Minnesota. The Tigers' only day off is September 18.
