Myers looks to rebound in doubleheader nightcap

Sep 14, 2008 - 7:25 AM Milwaukee at Philadelphia 7:35 p.m. EDT

PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Brett Myers will be looking to rebound from a rare loss when the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers meet in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Rains across the country wiped out a number of games on Friday, and the Phillies and Brewers decided to move a doubleheader to Sunday rather than risking the weather for two games on Saturday.

Myers (9-11, 4.22 ERA) will get the start for Philadelphia in the nightcap. The veteran righthander is 6-2 with a 1.90 ERA in 10 starts since returning from a demotion to the minor leagues on July 23 but allowed more than three runs for the first time in that span on Wednesday, when he yielded four runs in 7 1/3 innings to suffer a loss against the Florida Marlins.

Myers, who will be making the start on three days' rest as the Phillies shorten their rotation due to the weather and to get their best arms the most starts down the stretch, has notched at least eight strikeouts in his last six starts. After allowing 24 homers in his first 17 starts, Myers has allowed three blasts in the last 10.

He has been strong against Milwaukee in his career, with a 3-1 record with a 2.03 ERA and a .217 batting average against in seven games - three starts.

The Brewers will counter with veteran Jeff Suppan (10-8, 4.63). The righthander has struggled in each of his last two starts, allowing nine runs in 10 2/3 combined innings while issuing six walks.

Suppan faced the Phillies once in April, allowing one run in seven innings without factoring in the decision.
