Angels look to continue rolling toward postseason

Sep 14, 2008 - 7:27 AM Seattle (57-89) at LA Angels (91-57), 3:35 p.m. EDT

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have already clinched the American League West. They aren't becoming complacent.

The Angels look to complete a four-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.

Anaheim, which leads the Tampa Bay Rays (88-58) by two games for the race for the best record in the AL, has been anchored all season by closer Francisco Rodriguez.

The electric righthander made history on Saturday, breaking the major league record by saving his 58th game of the season in Anaheim's 5-2 triumph.

"It's all about my teammates. All year our starting pitching has been great. It allows us to hand it over to the (bullpen) and get to me. It's a team effort and can't do it without them," Rodriguez said.

The Angels will try and get "K-Rod" another opportunity when they send Ervin Santana (15-6, 3.36 ERA) to the mound. The righthander was roughed up in his last outing, giving up six runs - five earned - over 6 1/3 innings during a 7-1 loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday.

Seattle will counter with Felix Hernandez (9-10, 3.47). The righthander has dropped his last two starts and went a season-low 4 1/3 innings against Texas on Tuesday, allowing six runs.

Hernandez has had mixed success against the Angels in his young career, going 3-4 with a 4.83 ERA.
