Mariners RHP Silva hopes to snap losing streak
Sep 15, 2008 - 2:01 PM Seattle (57-91) at Kansas City (65-84), 8:10 p.m. EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- When the Seattle Mariners gave righthander Carlos Silva a four-year, $48 million contract in the offseason, they were expecting better results.
Silva will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak when Seattle visits the Kansas City Royals in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.
The 29-year-old Venezuelan (4-14, 6.53 ERA) is mired in a nine-start winless streak following a win on June 28 that had snapped a 12-start winless stretch.
Silva has surrendered 15 runs over his last two starts - spanning eight innings - and was tagged for six runs over 4 2/3 innings against Texas on September 1.
The Royals, who have won three straight games, will counter with Kyle Davies (6-7, 4.70) on the mound. The 25-year-old righthander has lost five of his last six starts and only has made it through six innings once in his last nine outings.
Davies allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings against Minnesota on Wednesday.
