Struggling Hernandez takes the hill for Rockies

DENVER (Ticker) -- After Colorado's pitching staff was rocked in the series opener, the Rockies' hitters returned the favor on Tuesday.

Righthander Livan Hernandez hopes to receive the same run support - which he may need - Wednesday when he meets the San Diego Padres.

Colorado dropped the opener, 11-5, before Chris Iannetta and Jeff Baker fueled a 10-2 rout with a grand slam and three-run blast, respectively.

Hernandez (1-3, 9.85 ERA) will be making his seventh start with Colorado since he was let go by the Minnesota Twins.

The righthander, who has eight strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings with Colorado, has not pitched well for the Rockies. Hernandez has failed to go past five innings in three of his starts and the 33-year-old gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings against Atlanta on September 10.

The Padres will counter with rookie righthander Josh Geer (2-0, 3.18), who will make his fourth career start. The 25-year-old pitched a season-high seven innings on Thursday, giving up two runs in a victory against San Francisco.
