Streaking Marlins go for eighth straight win

Sep 18, 2008 - 10:21 AM Houston (80-71) at Florida (79-72) 7:10 p.m. EDT

MIAMI (Ticker) -- The Houston Astros do not appear to have recovered from the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. The Florida Marlins have not helped matters, either.

Florida looks to complete a series sweep and win its eighth straight game when it hosts Houston on Thursday.

Houston had won 14 of 15 prior to being forced to evacuate Texas last weekend. The Astros were then no-hit by Chicago's Carlos Zambrano on Sunday, one-hit by the Cubs' Ted Lilly on Monday and have been outscored, 19-2, over the first two games with the Marlins.

The Astros are four games behind the New York Mets (84-67) in the National League wild-card race. The Marlins are five games out.

Rookie righthander Alberto Arias (1-0, 1.93 ERA) will be counted on to get Houston back on track.

The 24-year-old won his first career start on September 8, pitching five scoreless innings against Pittsburgh.

The Marlins will counter with Scott Olson (7-10, 4.31), who snapped a personal six-game losing streak last Friday. The lefthander allowed one run over six innings against Washington.

Florida shortstop Hanley Ramirez left Wednesday's 14-2 victory with a sore left shoulder. He is listed as day-to-day.
