Diamondbacks go for fifth straight win

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks are clinging to hope in the National League West.

Arizona eyes its fifth straight win on Friday when it meets the Colorado Rockies.

The Diamondbacks seemed to be free-falling their way out of contention after losing 15 of 19 before a four-game sweep over the San Francisco Giants has kept them afloat. The Diamondbacks trail the Los Angeles Dodgers (80-73) by 3 1/2 games with 10 contests remaining.

Rookie righthander Max Scherzer (0-2, 2.80 ERA) will try and continue Arizona's momentum. The 24-year-old matched a career-high in his last start by going six innings and giving up one run. Scherzer did not factor in the decision despite striking out nine against Cincinnati on Sunday.

Colorado, which has lost 10 of 12 meetings with Arizona, will counter with Jorge De La Rosa (8-8, 5.38).

The lefthander has not made it past the sixth inning in each of his last two starts and allowed four runs and seven hits over five frames in a loss to Los Angeles last Saturday.

The four-game winning streak is Arizona's first since it won four straight from May 13-16. Its season-long is eight straight.
