Diamondbacks hope to end road futility

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks' road record is costing the team a potential playoff spot.

The Diamondbacks try to end their 11-game road losing streak on Saturday when they visit the Colorado Rockies.

Arizona tied a franchise record by losing its 11th straight game away from home on Friday, suffering a 3-2 loss to the Rockies. The Diamondbacks previously lost 11 consecutive on the road in July 2004.

The setback dropped Arizona's road record to 31-44 with their last win coming in Houston on August 16. But, thanks to the Dodgers' 7-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants, the Diamondbacks stayed 3 1/2 games behind Los Angeles (80-74) in the National League West.

Doug Davis (6-8, 4.30) hopes to end Arizona's road futility. Davis has not factored in the decision during his last three outings despite surrendering six runs - five earned - in 18 1/3 innings.

Aaron Cook (16-9, 4.00 ERA) counters for the Rockies. Cook was outstanding on Sunday, pitching eight shutout innings while allowing eight hits and striking out two. The 29-year-old All-Star did not factor in the decision as Colorado needed 10 innings to claim a 1-0 victory against the Dodgers.
