White Sox hope to take big lead into key series
Sep 21, 2008 - 7:10 AM Chi White Sox (85-69) at Kansas City (70-85) 2:10 p.m. EDTKANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- The Chicago White Sox could be forgiven for looking past Kansas City. The Royals won't do them any favors by rolling over, though.
The White Sox will be looking to finish off the Royals on Sunday before moving on to a key three-game series at Minnesota on Tuesday.
Chicago currently owns a 2 1/2-game lead in the American League Central over the Twins (83-72).
The White Sox failed to take advantage of a Minnesota loss to the Tampa Bay Rays earlier in the day when they dropped Saturday's contest, 5-2, to the Royals.
Kyle Davies tossed seven-plus strong innings and Alex Gordon, David DeJesus and Kila Ka'aihue homered for Kansas City.
John Danks (10-8, 3.32 ERA) will try to stop a five-start winless skid for the White Sox. The 23-year-old lefthander is 0-3 with a 4.56 ERA in his last five outings and has made it through seven innings once in his last 11 starts.
Danks was crushed by the Royals on July 20, yielding six runs and nine hits in four innings.
Kansas City will counter with veteran journeyman Brandon Duckworth (3-1, 5.19). The righthander allowed two runs and six hits in six innings to earn a win against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday.
