A's look to send Mariners to longest losing streak since 2006
Sep 21, 2008 - 7:11 AM Seattle (57-97) at Oakland (73-81) 3:05 p.m. EDTOAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- In a season full of disappointment, the Seattle Mariners would reach another low with a loss in the series finale against the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.
The Mariners, who entered the season with hopes of capturing the American League West, have lost 10 straight games and will look to avoid their longest losing streak since August 2006 when they send Brandon Morrow (2-4, 2.53) to the mound. The righthander will make his fourth start since joining the rotation on September 3.
Morrow, 24, was solid in his first two starts, but struggled in his last outing, allowing eight hits - three homers - and six runs in four innings against the Kansas City Royals. He had allowed five home runs in his previous 49 1/3 innings before the Royals hit three solo blasts in a 6-3 victory.
Seattle is in the midst of its longest losing streak in over two years. The Mariners dropped 11 in a row, all during during an 11-game road trip from August 10-20, 2006.
The Athletics counter with Sean Gallagher (2-2, 5.16), who lasted seven innings and captured a victory in his last start for the first time since his debut with Oakland on July 11. Gallagher allowed one run and four hits while striking out six without issuing a walk in a 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
The 22-year-old is 2-0 with a 3.81 ERA in five home starts for Oakland, which has won six of seven.
