Oswalt takes hill for fading Astros

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Roy Oswalt hopes to bounce back from a rare poor outing when he takes the mound for the Houston Astros against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

The righthander (15-10, 3.66 ERA), who had thrown a franchise-record 32 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings, surrendered five runs over six frames against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday. Oswalt did match a season-high with 10 strikeouts

The Astros will need Oswalt to be at his best as they are running out of time in the National League wild-card chase. Houston trails the New York Mets (86-68) by five games with eight contests remaining.

Pittsburgh counters with Ross Ohlendorf (1-3, 6.79).

The righthander will be making his fourth start of the season and has not gotten past four innings in each of his last two outings. Ohlendorf took the loss after giving up three runs - two earned - over three innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.

Oswalt is 12-6 with a 2.43 ERA in 24 career games against Pittsburgh.
