Angels eye home-field advantage, visit Mariners
Sep 22, 2008 - 2:18 PM LA Angles (96-59) at Seattle (57-98) 10:10 pm. EDTSEATTLE (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles of Anaheim look to move closer to home-field advantage throughout the playoffs when they visit the lowly Seattle Mariners on Monday.
Anaheim, which leads Tampa Bay (92-62) by 3 1/2 games for the best record in baseball, posted their fourth straight win with a 7-3 victory over Texas on Sunday. John Lackey tossed six scoreless innings and Mark Teixeira homered for the Angels.
With Anaheim already assured home-field advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Ervin Santana (15-6, 3.33 ERA) is looking to duplicate the success he has at home.
The righthander is 30-13 in 57 home starts, and his ERA is more than 2 1/2 runs less in Anaheim (3.24) than on the road (5.77). Santana made great strides this season, though, as he is 10-2 with a 3.16 ERA in 16 road starts.
Santana allowed two runs and six hits in six innings, but did not factor into the decision in a 4-3 win over Seattle on Sunday.
Coming off an 0-11 road trip, the Mariners counter with Ryan Rowland-Smith (4-2, 3.53), who is winless in his last three starts.
