Volquez hopes to end winless streak

HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Still searching for his first win in September, Edinson Volquez will be on the mound when the Cincinnati Reds visit the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

Volquez (16-6, 3.29 ERA) has enjoyed an outstanding first full season in the majors, and is tied for fourth in the National League in wins.

But the 25-year-old has struggled lately, going winless in his last four starts - his longest drought of the season.

The righthander walked six for the second straight start on Thursday, allowing four runs over seven innings in a loss to St. Louis.

Houston would like to continue Volquez's slump as it looks to keep its slim playoff hopes alive. The Astros trail the New York Mets (86-70) by 3 1/2 games in the NL wild card.

The Astros will send Wandy Rodriguez (8-6, 3.73) to the mound.

Rodriguez has not pitched since September 1 due to an oblique strain, which caused him to leave his last start after one inning.
