Halladay aims to shut down streaking Yankees

TORONTO (Ticker) -- If the New York Yankees hope to equal their season-long winning streak, they are going to have to find a way to stop Roy Halladay from becoming a 20-game winner.

Halladay will be on the mound as Toronto hopes to avoid a three-game sweep and snap New York's seven-game winning streak on Thursday.

The Blue Jays' righthander (19-11, 2.81 ERA) is 4-0 with a 2.17 ERA in his last four starts against the Yankees. Halladay is 14-5 against the Bronx Bombers in his career.

New York, which was eliminated from playoffs contention on Tuesday for the first time since 1995, has also been pitching well. Over the past seven games, New York has allowed 10 runs.

Carl Pavano (4-1, 4.99) will try and continue that pace.

The righthander has won his last two outings, including last Friday when he allowed two runs over five innings against Baltimore.

New York won eight consecutive games from July 18-26.
