Rockies try to continue offensive explosion vs. Giants
Sep 25, 2008 - 10:05 AM Colorado (73-85) at San Francisco (70-88) 10:15 p.m. EDTSAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies don't need the thin air of Coors Field to light up the scoreboard.
The Rockies try to complete the sweep of the San Francisco Giants when the teams meet on Thursday.
Each player in the starting lineup on Wednesday logged a hit for Colorado, which finished with 18 total en route to a 15-6 victory - its eighth win in the last 11 meetings with the Giants. Clint Barmes, Garrett Atkins and Jeff Baker each hit home runs to highlight the Rockies' attack, one night after they opened the series with a 9-4 triumph.
Colorado hopes to keep the hit parade going against Barry Zito (10-16, 5.28 ERA), who has reached the 10-win mark for the eighth consecutive season despite posting an 0-8 record in his first nine starts.
Zito has pitched well of late, going 4-1 in his last seven outings. The 2002 American League Cy Young Award winner allowed one run and six hits in 7 2/3 innings on Friday, leading San Francisco to a 7-1 victory over the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jorge De La Rosa (9-8, 5.20) goes for his fourth win in six starts when he counters for Colorado.
