Pirates, Padres close out disappointing seasons
Sep 28, 2008 - 7:39 AM Pittsburgh (66-95) at San Diego (63-98), 4:05 p.m. EDTSAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates will meet and end their respective poor seasons on Sunday.
Both teams are in last place of their respective divisions. It is the third time in four seasons that Pittsburgh will finish last in the National League Central, while San Diego is at the bottom of the NL West for the first time since 2003.
Cha Seung Baek (6-9, 4.87 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres.
The righthander has won two of his last three starts, allowing two earned runs over that span. Baek defeated Washington on September 21, giving up one run over seven innings.
Pittsburgh will counter with Ross Ohlendorf (0-3, 7.50), who has not pitched well since the Pirates acquired him from the New York Yankees.
Ohlendorf gave up four runs and 10 hits over five frames against the Houston Astros on September 21, suffering his third straight defeat.
