Posada homers to power Yankees
Feb 26, 2009 - 9:03 PM TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Jorge Posada homered and drove in two runs to help the New York Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Grapefruit League play Thursday.Shelly Duncan added a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Yankees toppled the defending American League East champion Rays.
But the story for New York was Posada, who missed almost the last 2 1/2 months of the 2008 season after undergoing surgery on his throwing shoulder.
Posada hit a solo blast off Chad Orvella in the third and added an RBI double in the fifth inning.
Yankees starter Philip Hughes, who also endured an injury-plagued 2008 season, started and threw two scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one.
Wade Davis started for Tampa Bay, working two scoreless frames and striking out three.
