Hernandez struggles as Mariners tie Padres
Feb 27, 2009 - 12:45 AM PEORIA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Felix Hernandez allowed two runs and four hits in two innings as the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres battled to a 4-4 draw in 10 innings on Thursday.Hernandez did not record a strikeout and allowed a two-run homer to Henry Blanco in the second inning.
Chris Young countered for the Padres and tossed one perfect frame before yielding to Justin Hampson, who surrendered three runs - two earned - and three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Journeyman Chris Shelton, who is gunning for a role as a backup first baseman on the Mariners, homered off Hampson.
