Votto, Gomes power Reds over Phillies

Feb 27, 2009 - 10:06 PM SARASOTA, Florida (Ticker) -- Joey Votto had a pair of hits, including a home run, and two RBI and Jonny Gomes also drove in a pair of runs as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 10-3, in Grapefruit League action Friday.

Luis Bolivar and Ryan Hanigan each drove in two runs as well for Cincinnati, which scored four runs in the first inning and four more in the seventh.

Veteran righthander Bronson Arroyo started the game for the Reds, allowing a run, two hits and a walk in two innings pitched.

Philadelphia starter Andrew Carpenter did not record an out, getting tagged for four runs, three hits and three walks.

J.C. Romero, who will begin serving a 50-game suspension at the start of the regular season after testing positive for the banned substance androstenedione, walked three and surrendered an unearned run in two innings of work.

Pablo Ozuna hit a home run and offseason acquisition Raul Ibanez drove in a run with a double for the defending World Series champions.
