Woodward's homer triggers Mariners rally

Feb 28, 2009 - 11:02 PM PEORIA, Arizona (Ticker) -- Chris Woodward hit a solo home run to spark a three-run eighth inning, lifting the Seattle Mariners to a 6-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants in Cactus League action on Saturday.

The Mariners trailed 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth. Woodward led off the bottom of the inning with a homer, and Adam Moore and Prentice Redman added RBI singles to expand the lead to 6-4.

Carlos Silva struggled in his first start of the spring. He gave up two runs and five hits in two innings. Fred Lewis hit a solo home run off of Silva in the first inning.

Giants starter Barry Zito pitched two hitless innings, striking out two. Alex Hinshaw was responsible for the eighth inning collapse, giving up three runs and five hits in two-thirds of an inning.
