Metcalf's RBI double lifts Rangers over Diamondbacks

Mar 1, 2009 - 12:28 AM TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Travis Metcalf snapped a tie in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI double, lifting the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Cactus League action Saturday.

Max Ramirez got things going in the eighth with a double to left field and came around to score moments later on Metcalf's go-ahead hit. Two batters later, Joaquin Arias made it a two-run game with a run-scoring single.

Chris Roberson's solo home run in the bottom half of the inning cut the lead in half, but the Diamondbacks couldn't climb any closer as Texas held on to snap a two-game skid.

Greg Golson went 2-for-3 with three RBI for the Rangers and Metcalf had three hits. However, the afternoon didn't go quite as smoothly for newcomer Andruw Jones, who signed a minor-league contract with the club earlier this month and is vying for a spot on the major league roster.

He was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts and a walk in this one, and in nine at-bats this spring, he has struck out eight times.
