Dodgers pound Rockies
Mar 1, 2009 - 12:52 AM TUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) -- Mitch Jones belted a grand slam in a six-run eighth inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers posted a 13-5 victory over the Colorado Rockies in a Cactus League game Saturday.Matt Kemp also provided a two-run blast for the Dodgers, who banged out 11 hits.
Los Angeles starter Clayton Kershaw allowed two hits in two innings, striking three without a walk. Five relievers combined to yield three runs and four hits in the final seven frames.
Jason Marquis started for Colorado, yielding an unearned run and two walks without a hit or a strikeout.
Jones delivered the grand slam off Rockies reliever Jason Grilli, who was charged with one run and one hit in one-third of an inning. He struck out one without a walk.
Veteran reliever Alan Embree started the eighth for Colorado, allowing five runs - one earned - and two hits, but could not record the final out of that decisive frame.
