As the Major League Baseball season kicks off on Opening Day, fans and bettors alike are looking for exciting ways to get in on the action. One popular betting option that has been gaining popularity in recent years is the MLB same-game parlay. Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles 

  • Leg 1: Red Sox Moneyline (-130)
  • Leg 2: Player to get a single: Rafael Devers (-120)
  • Leg 3: Player to get a single: Adam Frazier (-120) 

The Boston Red Sox will look to start their 2023 campaign in a different way than last year. In 2022, they started out the season losing 3 of their first 4 games on their way to a last place finish in the AL East. I expect them to start strong at home again an Orioles team that they couldn’t seem to figure out last year. Pitching is not the strong suit of these teams, so I expect these teams to come out and hit. Devers is the new face of the Red Sox and I have him starting his AL MVP campaign early with some hits today in a good Lefty against Righty matchup. I like Adam Frazier to get a single in the last leg as he also has a good matchup against the Right-handed Corey Kluber.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cincinnati Reds

  • Leg 1: Pirates Moneyline (+110)
  • Leg 2: Brian Reynolds 1+ Total Bases (-180)
  • Leg 3: Oneil Cruz 1+ Total Bases (-160)
  • Leg 4: Mitch Keller 4+ Strikeouts Thrown (-350)

Believe it or not, I like the Pirates on the road to beat a familiar opponent in Cincinnati. I expect Mitch Keller to have success against this Reds lineup without their star, Joey Votto, who is hurt to begin the 2023 season. I don’t think the Reds will have enough offensive firepower in this game to beat the scrappy Pirates. There’s some optimism in Pittsburgh after longtime Pirate great Andrew McCutcheon has rejoined the team. They also added Carlos Santana and Ji-Man Choi to help kickstart this offense that had some troubles in 2022. Look for the Pirates to come out hot to start this season.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Toronto Blue Jays

  • Leg 1: Cardinals Moneyline (-105)
  • Leg 2: Lars Nootbar 1+ Total Bases (-180)
  • Leg 3: Daulton Varsho (+195)

This is one of the best games I’m looking forward to on Opening Day. Two very good teams that should be in the playoff conversation in the fall and both could very well win their respective divisions. However, I expect the Blue Jays to struggle a bit on the road at St. Louis. The 2022 season ended in a heartbreaking way for the Cardinals and I imagine they want to start out strong to help get the bad taste out of their mouths from last year. The World Baseball Classic showed us Lars Nootbar’s ability, and I believe he will carry that success over into Opening Day. On the other side, I like the Blue Jays free agent pickup in Daulton Varsho and think he draws a good matchup today against the Right-handed Miles Mikolas. Varsho will most likely bat in the 4-5 range in the batting order. I like Varsho’s chances for an RBI with Springer, Bichette, and Guerrero Jr. all batting ahead of him. Ultimately, I like both teams to score in this game with the Cardinals edging out the victory.
