Sheets, Brewers seek series sweep vs. Giants

Sep 24, 2006 - 3:26 PM San Francisco (75-79) at Milwaukee (72-83) 2:05 pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- The Milwaukee Brewers will try and complete their four-game series sweep of the slumping San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Bill Hall had two hits, including the game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Brewers rallied for a 10-8 victory Saturday. Hall also plated the go-ahead run in Friday's 13-12 triumph.

San Francisco stands six games behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League wild card chase. It has dropped three straight games and seven of eight overall.

Ben Sheets (5-7, 4.21 ERA) takes the hill for Milwaukee in search of the sweep. Sheets gave up four runs and 10 hits with eight strikeouts in six innings in Tuesday's 12-2 loss to St. Louis. The Brewers are just 1-4 over the last five games in which he started.

The hard-throwing righthander will be making his first appearance of the season against the Giants and hopes to improve on his 1-2 career record vs. them.

San Francisco rookie Matt Cain (13-10, 3.99) looks to bounce back from his disappointing start at Colorado where he was pounded for seven runs and a season-high 11 hits in 5 1/3 frames Tuesday. The tough outing snapped his personal five-game winning streak.

Barry Bonds collected his 734th career homer to take sole possession of first place on the NL all-time home run list, surpassing Hall of Famer Hank Aaron. He has 10 hits - two homers - and 10 RBI in his last six contests.
