Lind, Hill lead as Blue Jays trounce White Sox

Apr 25, 2009 - 4:38 AM CHICAGO (AP) -- Aaron Hill and the rest of the Toronto Blue Jays' potent lineup made Brian Tallet's job a whole lot easier on a windy night.

Hill drove in three runs and Adam Lind hit three doubles in a 14-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

Rod Barajas was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Jose Bautista homered in the ninth for Toronto, which has won seven of its last nine games. Bautista's solo shot gave the Blue Jays a season-high 14 runs to go along with their season-best 21 hits.

"Guys are swinging the bat right now all through the lineup," Hill said. "We're just running with it. Obviously it's a game of momentum. We're having fun doing it."

Gavin Floyd (2-2), a 17-game winner last season, had his shortest outing since Aug. 5, 2008, against Detroit. He allowed six runs, five earned, in 4 1-3 innings. He also walked five, threw two wild pitches and struck out five.

With winds gusting up to 30 mph and plenty of run support, Tallet (1-0) had little trouble with the White Sox lineup. He allowed four hits in 5 2-3 innings, escaping a one-out bases-loaded jam in the third.

"When I was able to get out of that inning I think it really deflated them more than anything," Tallet said.

Tallet took Jesse Litsch's spot in the rotation after he was placed on the disabled list with a strained right forearm. He retired six of the last seven batters he faced and left with a 12-0 lead.

Toronto pushed across three runs in the first, helped by shortstop Alexei Ramirez's first error of the season. Vernon Wells hit a two-run double and scored on Lind's first double.

Ramirez, who played a vital role in Chicago's AL Central title last season, is hitting just .167 this season.

"When you take your glove to the plate and you take the bat to the field, you are not going to have much success in this game," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I don't like what I (saw) today, not because of the error, I'm making it clear, I (didn't) like his attitude today. He was kind of head down and feeling sorry for himself."

The Blue Jays carried a 6-0 lead into the sixth and put the game away with six runs. Barajas, Travis Snider and Marco Scutaro had RBI singles, Hill doubled in a pair of runs and Alex Rios added a sacrifice fly.

Jack Egbert was charged with six runs and seven hits in 1 2-3 innings for the White Sox. After two relief appearances, he was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following the game. The White Sox will announce a corresponding move on Saturday.

Carlos Quentin was in the Chicago lineup after being hit by a pitch on his left hand in Thursday's loss to Baltimore. He was 0-for-2 with a walk and was pulled after the sixth inning because of the lopsided score.

"Overall, this is one of the worst games I hope I see this year," Guillen said after Chicago's most lopsided loss since a 16-3 setback on July 31, 2007, at Yankee Stadium.

Notes: The Blue Jays called up LHP Brian Burres from Triple-A Las Vegas to start Saturday against the White Sox. Burres replaces rookie LHP Ricky Romero, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained muscle in his right side. Burres was 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA in three games in Triple-A. He went 7-10 with a 6.04 ERA in 31 games with Baltimore last season. ... Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley attended the game on his 67th birthday. ... Chicago left 13 on base.
