Wizards crush Heat in season finale
Apr 27, 2012 - 4:46 AM Washington, DC (Sports Network) - Maurice Evans led five Washington players in double-digits with 18 points as the Washington Wizards thumped the Miami Heat, 104-70, to end the regular season.Miami (46-20) rested all of its stars as the team was locked into the second seed in the Eastern Conference before the game started and will face the New York Knicks in the first round starting on Saturday in Miami.
Washington (20-46), which won its final six games to close out the season, got 15 points from both Kevin Seraphin and Nene, while Cartier Martin had 12 and Jan Vesely added 11.
"Not happy with the way the season went, but it was nice to close things out with this streak," said Martin.
None of the Heat's Big Three played and the team shot just 35.8 percent in the contest. Norris Cole had 14 points and Eddy Curry added 10.
"If we land safely and the plane touches down in Miami, it's a victory," said Battier. "That was a nasty game. Luckily no one was injured. Seriously, that's what you take away from this game."
Curry and Udonis Haslem scored the first points of the game to give Miami an early lead, but Martin followed with consecutive three-pointers to kick off an 11-3 run that saw Washington take a lead it never relinquished.
The Wizards eventually took a 28-18 lead into the second quarter and closed the first half on a 10-2 run to give the team a 57-32 lead at the break.
Washington scored the first seven points of the third as the team continued to pour it on, taking a 80-50 lead into the fourth and leading by as many as 38 in the final quarter.
