Monroe helps Pistons rout Nets
Feb 11, 2012 - 5:20 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Greg Monroe recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons rolled over the New Jersey Nets, 109-92, in the back end of a home-and-home series at The Palace of Auburn Hills.Jonas Jerebko added 20 points off the bench, while Rodney Stuckey had 19 as the Pistons increased their season-high win streak to four games.
"It's just always fun to win, so hopefully we can continue doing this," said Stuckey. "When the ball is moving, that is when we are at our best."
Johan Petro paced the Nets with 16 points in New Jersey's fifth straight defeat, including a 99-92 loss to the Pistons on Wednesday. Jordan Farmar and Deron Williams contributed 14 points apiece in the loss.
New Jersey opened the game with seven straight points to jump ahead, but that would be the last time they would have the lead in the contest, as a Tayshaun Prince basket stopped the bleeding and sparked a 12-0 run by the Pistons.
Williams sank a jumper and then made a pair of free throws around a Stuckey layup to close the gap to 14-11 before Detroit recorded nine straight points to stretch its lead to double digits and held a 24-15 advantage after one.
The Pistons went 10-of-19 from the floor in the opening frame, while New Jersey shot 6-for-21 in the first after opening the game making three of its first five shots.
Farmar's three-point play early in the second quarter capped a 7-2 swing and brought the Nets within six, but the Pistons responded with the game's next eight points and New Jersey never got closer than nine for the remainder of the game.
Detroit led 52-33 at the half and was up by at least 20 and by as many as 30 en route to an 87-64 lead after three quarters before cruising through the fourth.
"This is bad. This is probably one of our worst [losses] of the season," Williams said. "I think this was just one of those ones where nothing seems to go right."
