Stuckey leads Pistons past Lakers in OT
Mar 7, 2012 - 5:38 AM Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Rodney Stuckey scored 34 points, including a critical three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation, and the Detroit Pistons bested the Los Angeles Lakers, 88-85, in overtime on Tuesday.Jason Maxiell had a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and Ben Gordon finished with 15 points and five boards for the Pistons, who have won two of three.
"Absolutely, that's my game; I've been doing that since high school. Just being aggressive taking the ball to the basket, that's pretty much my game," Stuckey said.
Andrew Bynum netted 30 points and grabbed 14 boards, Pau Gasol had 20 and 10 and Kobe Bryant donated 22 points for the Lakers, who saw a three-game winning streak come to an end.
"We can play together," Bynum said. "We knew we didn't pass the ball, we didn't move bodies, we get stagnant and it cost us every night. We move the ball to the open man and everything will work itself out."
Stuckey's trey with 9.8 ticks on the clock in the fourth quarter put the Pistons up 78-76, but Bryant knocked down a fadeaway jumper as time expired to force overtime.
Stuckey also scored six points in the extra session.
His running jumper with 4:03 left opened the scoring, but Bynum scored the next five points, the first two on an alley-oop from Bryant and the others on a three-point play.
A pullup jumper from Stuckey made it a one-point game before Maxiell grabbed Tayshaun Prince's miss in midair and slammed home a putback dunk for a slim Pistons lead with 1:57 to play.
Gasol answered with a jumper from Bryant. Prince, however, made a 17-footer on the ensuing Detroit possession that proved to be the game winner.
The Lakers had two opportunities to tie after two Stuckey makes from the charity stripe, but Bryant and Metta World Peace failed to convert three-point attempts.
After trailing 24-17 after one quarter, Detroit held a 45-41 edge at halftime.
