Williams helps Sixers rip Warriors

Jan 1, 2012 - 6:38 AM Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Lou Williams scored 23 points to pace five double-digit scorers for Philadelphia as the 76ers routed the Golden State Warriors 107-79.

Thaddeus Young had 18, Andre Iguodala and Spencer Hawes each netted 14, and Jrue Holiday contributed 12 for the 76ers, who made 11-of-20 three-pointers on the way to their second win in three games.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 21 points while David Lee added 19 with eight rebounds as Golden State had its two-game win streak snapped.

The Warriors were playing without their leading scorer Monta Ellis, who was excused from the team on Friday to attend his Grandmother's funeral in Mississippi.

The game wasn't always in the 76ers' hands as the Warriors jumped out of the gate hot, leading by a score of 20-7 with 4:35 left in the first quarter.

But that is when Philadelphia's offense woke up and its defense clamped down.

The 76ers closed out the first quarter on a 12-5 run to get within 25-19 at the first break.

"We had an opportunity to come out and put our foot on the gas pedal at that point. When we didn't, we let them back in the game and they hit a lot of shots and that turned into a lot of easy possessions," said Curry.

After shooting 42.3 percent from the floor in the first quarter, Golden State was held to 32 percent in the second, 29.4 percent in the third and 47.6 percent in the fourth after Philadelphia had built up a sizeable lead.

Philadelphia on the other hand shot 57.1 percent in the second, 36.4 percent in the third and 70.6 percent in the fourth compared to a 36.8 percent mark in the first.

"We came in and got a nice little run there to end the quarter and get ourselves back," 76ers head coach Doug Collins said. "There's moments in a coaches life when they really feel good about things and today was one of those days."

The 76ers took their first lead of the contest with 5:55 left in the second quarter on a Williams three-pointer, sparking a 6-0 spurt to put them ahead for good, 37-33.

They held a 50-42 advantage at halftime and it just grew from there, leading by as much as 21 in the third quarter and by no less than 16 in the fourth.
