Clippers halt losing streak, rout Grizzlies
Mar 24, 2012 - 10:23 PM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Blake Griffin netted a game-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and five assists as the Clippers rolled past the Grizzlies, 101-85, on Saturday.Chris Paul scored 19 points while handing out 13 assists, Randy Foye supplied 18 points and Nick Young had 16 off the bench for Los Angeles, which opened a five-game homestand by snapping a three-game skid.
The Clippers had lost all three games on a back-to-back-to-back road trip.
"This was great coming off that road trip," said Griffin. "It was good to get the win. We played good defensively, and we played four quarters today."
Zach Randolph led the way with 14 points and O.J. Mayo posted 13 for Memphis, which has lost all three contests on its current four-game trek and has dropped five of six overall.
Los Angeles claimed the tiebreaker between the two contending clubs, going up 2-0 in the season series with one game to play.
The Grizzlies kept it close in the early going, but down 21-17 late in the first, they watched LA roll off 12 unanswered points. Griffin scored five points, Paul had two and a steal and Bobby Simmons drained a three-pointer during the stretch.
"We got off to a poor start," said Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins. "We had no rhythm. We couldn't stop them. They had too many weapons to go to."
Paul scored seven points in the second quarter en route to a 56-42 halftime lead for the Clippers.
It was more of the same in the third. Randy Foye hit three treys while Memphis was held to 36.4 percent shooting from the field.
Memphis shot just 42.3 percent (33-of-78) overall.
The Grizzlies never seriously threatened in the final stanza as the Clippers built their largest lead of the game, 23 points at 88-65 midway through the frame.
