Grizzlies top Bobcats for record-tying 8th straight win
Nov 18, 2012 - 3:44 AM Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Zach Randolph produced his ninth double- double of the season and the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the Charlotte Bobcats, 94-87, to capture their eighth straight win.Randolph finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Mike Conley scored a game-high 20 points for Memphis, which was playing the second of a back-to- back after handing the New York Knicks their first loss of the season on Friday.
Rudy Gay fouled out but poured in 16 points and came away with three steals, while Marc Gasol and Tony Allen added 12 points apiece in snapping the Bobcats' three-game win streak.
The Grizzlies, who own the NBA's best record at 8-1, matched their franchise record for most consecutive wins.
Kemba Walker came alive in the fourth, finishing with 17 points for the game, but could not lead Charlotte all the way back from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit.
Byron Mullens led the way for the Bobcats with 18 points and nine rebounds, while rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist tallied 12 points and eight boards in the loss.
Seven straight points from Randolph in the first sparked a 12-0 run, which helped open up a 25-19 lead heading into the second quarter.
Ramon Sessions found Kidd-Gilchrist for a dunk to cut the Bobcats' deficit to 32-29, but the Grizzlies went on an 11-0 run from there to take a 43-29 lead with 2:25 left in the second quarter.
Tony Allen buried a jumper a little over a minute later to give Memphis its largest lead of the quarter at 16, but Charlotte scored the final seven points of the period to trail just 47-38 at halftime.
However, the Grizzlies quickly built their lead back up and led by double- digits the rest of the third after Conley scored on a layup to give Memphis a 58-48 advantage with 8:46 remaining in the period.
Charlotte, however, began to chip away after trailing by 17 early in the fourth, completely because of Walker. He rallied off 11 straight points to pull the Bobcats within 77-71 with just under seven minutes to play, but they didn't get any closer until Kidd-Gilchrist scored on layup to make it 88-83 with 46.8 seconds remaining.
Game Notes
