Nets take down Magic for fifth straight win
Dec 1, 2012 - 5:46 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Joe Johnson swished home a game-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting as the Brooklyn Nets knocked off the Orlando Magic, 98-86, on Friday at Amway Center.Gerald Wallace buried five 3-pointers en route to 20 points and Andray Blatche added 14 points and nine rebounds for the streaking Nets, who have won five straight. Deron Williams gave 11 points and seven assists, while Kris Humphries donated 11 points and seven boards to the victory.
"We're a much better 3-point shooting team than we've shown in the past," Nets coach Avery Johnson said. "The spacing was good, guys made on time and on target passes and we set good screens. That's a good formula for success."
Glen Davis scored a team-high 16 points and E'Tuwan Moore added 13 points on 6-of-10 from the floor for the Magic, who have lost three in a row on the heels of a two-game winning streak. Andrew Nicholson and Nikola Vucevic donated 12 points in the setback.
After a tightly played opening 12 minutes in which neither side led by more than six points, the Nets held a 25-21 advantage.
C.J. Watson buried a deep 3-ball early in the second quarter to give Brooklyn a five-point cushion at 32-27, but the Magic tied the contest on three different occasions and stayed within one possession for the duration of the frame. Moore hit a running jumper at the horn to cut the Nets' lead to 45-44 at the half.
A Vucevic dunk with 8:35 on the third quarter clock cut the Magic's deficit to 54-52, but the Nets began to pull away by following that bucket with a 15-4 outburst.
Wallace buried a trio of 3-pointers during the run, which allowed the Nets to open up a 69-56 margin with 3:40 to go in the period. Orlando's Gustavo Ayon hit 1-of-2 from the line to make it a nine-point affair later on, but the Nets led 76-65 heading to the final quarter.
Brooklyn poured it on in the fourth quarter, leading by as many as 20 en route to the victory.
"We had great effort and energy at the beginning of the game," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said. "But, we have to get to a point where that is sustained for 48 minutes."
