Nets bounce back with win over Hornets

Mar 13, 2013 - 3:37 AM Brooklyn, NY (Sports Network) - Brook Lopez had 26 points and Deron Williams scored 20 to go along with 13 assists as the Brooklyn Nets edged the New Orleans Hornets, 108-98, on Tuesday at Barclays Center.

Andray Blatche chipped in 18 points, while MarShon Brooks donated 14 for the Nets, who bounced back from a defeat at Philadelphia on Monday and have won four of five.

"I keep saying we're day-to-day," Brooklyn coach P.J. Carlesimo said. "Everybody in the league is the same way. You have to come and you have to perform every night. We disappointed ourselves last night. Had we found a way to win last night, then today would have been the one that would have been hard for us to maintain the energy and do it. I like where we're at."

Eric Gordon scored 21 points and Anthony Davis had a double-double with 17 and 10 boards for the Hornets, who have lost four of five overall and four consecutive road contests.

The Hornets stayed within striking distance to start the second half and chipped away to close the gap to two points, 80-78, by the end of the third stanza.

After fighting for most of the third to have a shot for victory, the Hornets had a disappointing start the fourth and were outscored, 12-3, as Brooks accounted for seven points during the swing to make it 92-81 with just over eight minutes remaining.

Robin Lopez had a jump-hook at the five minute mark to bring the Hornets within seven, but that's the closest they got for the rest of the contest.

"It's free rain for them after that," Gordon said of the Nets' play in the fourth quarter. "All they just have to do is just take it to the basket every time and just be aggressive and they did that."

Brooklyn quickly dismissed any thoughts of a comeback, scoring seven unanswered, as Blatche battled for a missed Williams free throw and put-back a bucket to strengthen the edge to 14 points with three minutes to play.

Brooklyn held a 28-19 lead after one quarter and extended the edge to as many as 13 points towards the end of the second, before taking a 57-49 margin into the break.
