Duncan, Spurs down Bulls

Mar 7, 2013 - 7:28 AM San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Tim Duncan filled the stat sheet with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks, as the San Antonio Spurs used a strong second half to beat the Chicago Bulls, 101-83, on Wednesday.

Manu Ginobili added 18 points and nine assists for the Spurs, who have won three in a row. Kawhi Leonard tallied 14 points and seven boards.

Tiago Splitter donated 13 points and 10 rebounds for San Antonio, which outscored Chicago by a 54-31 margin in the second half. Patty Mills also had 13 points.

"In the first half it was not great, not bad either, but the second half was great," Ginobili said. "We attacked and moved the ball around the court from side to side and that is what you have to do against good defensive teams. I think that is something we should be really satisfied about."

Marco Belinelli ended with 21 points and seven assists for the Bulls, who went 0-2 against the Spurs this season. Luol Deng added 19 points and seven rebounds.

The Spurs jumped out to a 15-6 lead, but the Bulls responded with a 15-1 run. Nate Robinson's layup gave Chicago a 21-16 edge with 46.3 seconds left in the first quarter. The visitors took a 23-22 margin into the second.

The Bulls went on a 15-0 run during the middle stages of the second stanza. Marquis Teague capped the surge with a 3-pointer to make it 46-32 with 4:06 to go.

San Antonio responded with the next 11 points to make it a three-point contest. Belinelli's layup with 36.4 seconds left gave the Bulls a 52-47 lead at the break.

The Spurs scored the final six points of a tightly-contested third quarter. Splitter's slam with 52.6 seconds remaining gave the home team a 72-68 margin after three.

San Antonio carried that momentum into the fourth, starting the final frame on a 13-3 run. Ginobili and Mills each tallied five points during the burst to give the Spurs an 85-71 edge.

The Bulls never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.

"They have a very good team at executing," Deng said on the Spurs' execution. "When you play a team like that, you've got to stay disciplined the whole 48 minutes. They do a good job of just staying focused and staying with the game plan."

The Spurs improved to 25-3 at home this season ... The Bulls, who have lost two in a row, played without guards Richard Hamilton (back) and Kirk Hinrich (foot) on Wednesday ... The Spurs shot 54.1 percent from the field ... Teague and Carlos Boozer had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulls.
