Walker helps Charlotte end road skid with win in New York

Walker scored 25 points with six assists and five rebounds to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 102-97 win over the New York Knicks.
Gerald Henderson chipped in with 18 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 16 points in the win for Charlotte, which moved to 2-2 on the season and snapped a 16-game road skid extending into last season.
Carmelo Anthony scored a game-high 32 points on 10-of-28 shooting and Metta World Peace scored 18 points off the bench for New York, which has dropped three straight.
Charlotte held a four-point advantage with 50 seconds left when Walker, guarded by Anthony, dribbled to the elbow and hit a fadeaway jumper to put the Bobcats up 99-93.
New York was without its All-Star center Tyson Chandler for a majority of the night when he injured his knee after colliding with Walker midway through the first quarter.
Walker drove the lane and went knee-to-knee with Chandler, who went to the bench immediately after the play for medical attention.
Chandler went to the locker room later in the quarter for further examination and did not return to the contest. X-rays were negative and he will be reevaluated Wednesday.
"Tyson's big for us. He's our shot-blocker, he's our man in the middle," said Knicks guard Iman Shumpert. "But we have guys that step right in. ... We gotta be able to adjust."
It was evident that New York missed its man in the middle. The NBA's lowest scoring team at 85.7 points per game, Charlotte scored 64 points in the first half, shooting 56 percent from the field.
"We want to push the pace. That's how we want to play," said Walker. "We want to get up and down. We want to play great defense and get stops and push in transition."
Walker left the game midway through the third quarter after what appeared to be a stinger to his shoulder. He returned and added five points in the final frame.
Charlotte had its largest lead of the game at 9:50 in the third stanza when it was 69-56. New York quickly closed the gap with a 14-5 run to pull within four, highlighted by back-to-back 3-pointers by Raymond Felton, who scored 10 of his 14 points in the frame.
New York hung around throughout the fourth quarter, staying within six points until Anthony hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to three.
After a Charlotte timeout, Charlotte's Josh McRoberts turned the ball over on the inbounds pass at half court. Shumpert, who finished with 14 points, stole the pass and was fouled by Walker. He made 1-of-2 free throws and Henderson was then fouled, sinking both of his free-throw attempts to seal the outcome for the Bobcats.
