Irving, Cavs down Magic

Dec 14, 2013 - 5:56 AM Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Kyrie Irving poured in 31 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 109-100 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday.

Dion Waiters scored 21 and Anderson Varejao had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Cleveland, which will face the Heat in Miami on Saturday.

"A good win for our guys," Cleveland head coach Mike Brown said. "For us, any road win right now is a good win."

Victor Oladipo netted 26 and Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo had 17 points apiece for the Magic, who will travel to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder on Sunday. Andrew Nicholson scored 12 points and had 10 rebounds in defeat.

"He's just getting better by the day," Orlando head coach Jacque Vaughn said of Oladipo. "His ability to worry about today's game is pretty impressive and to play against a high level backcourt like the Cavs' backcourt, you've got to give Victor a lot of credit."

Waiters scored the first 14 points of the fourth quarter for Cleveland. The last six sparked a 14-0 run before Afflalo halted it with a 12-foot jumper that came with 4:57 to play.

The Cavaliers trailed by as much as 11 and came no closer than five to finish the game.

An Irving dunk 3:01 into the third gave Cleveland its first lead since 4-2. The Magic, however, came right back with a 9-0 run to go up eight points, 64-56.

After trailing by as much as nine the Cavaliers climbed within three points to close out the quarter, 76-73.

Irving made a 20-foot jumper 5:35 into the second quarter that sparked a 9-0 run for Cleveland to tie the game at 40-40 with 3:32 left in the half.

Orlando responded immediately on a Nelson 3 that began a 9-2 burst but Cleveland pulled within 51-50 at halftime.

Orlando began a 12-2 run on an Oladipo trey 3:13 into the game. Andrew Bynum halted the run with a tip-in. The Cavaliers finished the quarter with a 7-2 run that brought them within nine points, 28-19, after trailing by as many as 14.
