Spurs continue dominance over Nets

Jan 1, 2014 - 5:09 AM San Antonio, TX ( - Tony Parker scored 18 points to lead six San Antonio players in double figures as the Spurs crushed the Brooklyn Nets, 113-92, from AT&T Center.

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili scored 15 points apiece, while Tiago Splitter and Patty Mills each chipped in with 12 points in the win.

Marco Belinelli finished with 10 points on an efficient 4-of-6 shooting for San Antonio, which won its sixth straight over Brooklyn and 11th straight at home against the itinerant Nets.

"Certainly, when you have a (big) lead, it's probably a little bit tougher to focus, but I feel we did that pretty well," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Mason Plumlee and Shaun Livingston each scored 15 points off the bench for the Nets, who have lost six of their last seven contests. Plumlee also added 13 rebounds in the setback.

Joe Johnson made a layup to make it 4-3 in favor of the Nets when the Spurs went on a 17-2 run which was capped by a jumper at the top of the key for Duncan with 5:35 left in the opening quarter.

Five Spurs contributed to the run and Duncan led the charge with six points.

The Nets stormed back and trimmed the deficit to six, 24-18, after an Alan Anderson triple with just under three to play in the first. San Antonio, however, pushed the lead back to double digits, 30-20, at the end of the quarter.

The Spurs lead was 42-32 when Danny Green and Parker opened and closed a 10-0 run with back-to-back shots from long range to push the edge to 52-32 with 2:54 left in the second stanza.

Splitter tipped in a Kawhi Leonard miss with 0.2 seconds left in the half to give the Spurs a commanding 59-36 lead heading into the locker room.

Mills and Ginobili personally went on a 12-4 swing late in the third quarter and Mills capped the run with a triple to extend the margin to 98-66 with 10 seconds to play.

The Spurs led by 30 going to the final frame and they eased off the gas in the fourth for the win, never leading by fewer than 19.

"It's embarrassing," said Paul Pierce, who had 13 points in the loss. "I don't know if I've been a part of this many blowouts in one season. At some point, we better have our pride."
