Grizzlies hold off Hawks

Jan 13, 2014 - 5:08 AM Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Conley had 21 points and 13 assists and the Memphis Grizzlies held off the Atlanta Hawks 108-101 on Sunday.

Zach Randolph registered 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Courtney Lee and Mike Miller both netted 15 points for the Grizzlies, who have won three of their last four games.

"We're starting to play better as a unit, which obviously breed confidence," Miller said. "We're starting to win games like that, which helps. Right now, we're plugging away and getting better."

Paul Millsap supplied 21 points, six boards and six assists, while Jeff Teague tallied 20 points and five helpers for Atlanta, which has lost four of its last six games.

Atlanta trailed by three, 93-90, with just under six minutes to play, but the Grizzlies answered with a 9-2 swing capped by two free throws from Conley to grab a 102-92 lead with 2:46 to play.

The Hawks got within five on Millsap's 3-pointer with 21.6 seconds left, but Randolph went 4-of-4 from the charity stripe to seal the outcome.

"Our guys competed," Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer said. "We just need to do that for longer and harder. It wasn't our sharpest night."

Memphis led 77-64 late in the third quarter, but the Hawks scored the game's next 16 points, capped by back-to-back triples from DeMarre Carroll that gave the visitors an 80-77 edge early in the fourth.

However, Conley capped a 10-2 Memphis swing with a pull-up jumper to give the Grizzlies an 89-84 lead with 7 1/2 minutes remaining.

Neither team created much separation in the early going until Memphis closed the second quarter on an 8-2 swing to take a 48-41 lead into halftime.

Teague's jumper with just over four minutes left in the third found the Hawks within 67-64, but Memphis reeled off 10 straight points to push the margin to 13 with just under two minutes left in the third.
