Grizzlies hand Bucks seventh straight loss
Jan 16, 2014 - 6:51 AM Milwaukee, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Conley scored 15 points with seven rebounds and five assists to help the Memphis Grizzlies to an 82-77 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.James Johnson contributed 15 points off the bench, while Ed Davis and Kosta Koufos scored 14 and 10 points, respectively, in a reserve role for Memphis, winners in four straight.
"We knew, on the bench, that we just needed to bring energy when we got in and that's what we did," Davis said of providing a spark off the bench.
Zach Randolph scored six points on 2-of-10 shooting in the win and his frontcourt mate Marc Gasol was held scoreless, missing all four attempts from the field in his second game since returning from an MCL sprain.
Brandon Knight led all scorers with 27 points in defeat, Milwaukee's seventh straight setback. Larry Sanders and Caron Butler each chipped in with 10 points for the Bucks.
Knight knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Bucks a 60-58 lead heading into the fourth.
Memphis then opened the fourth quarter on a 12-0 run to take control thanks to poor shooting from the hosts. Davis opened and closed the spurt, tipping in a Nick Calathes miss to begin the quarter and capping it with a dunk midway through the fourth.
The Bucks were 0-for-10 from the field to begin the final frame before Knight hit a 3-ball with 6:14 left to half the surge.
Knight pulled Milwaukee within three, 78-75, after a pair of free throws with under two minutes left, but Courtney Lee answered at the other end with a mid- range jumper to increase the cushion.
Sanders added a layup with 1:08 left to make it a one possession game, but his 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2.9 seconds left was off the mark and Lee buried a pair at the line to secure the win.
"He (Sanders) was not an option the last play of the game for a 3," Milwaukee head coach Larry Drew said of the ball ending up in Sanders' hands for the final shot.
Despite jumping out to an 8-1 lead in the early going, the Bucks were 4-for-22 from the field in the first quarter and trailed 20-10 after 12 minutes.
Memphis led by as many as 14 in the second stanza and led 42-35 at halftime.
